| Description: | A mid-grey crystalline metamorphic limestone cut by veins of white and pink calcite from Fladdabister, six miles south-south-west of Lerwick. BGS Sample SL 184. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number MC 7624. Pink and blue crystalline limestone forms the Ness of Fladdabister and extends to the south-west for a distance of over half a mile with a width of about 440 yards. An analysis of this limestone (S.L. 184) showed the following percentages: calcium carbonate, 89.64, magnesium carbonate, 2.01, insoluble residue 6.37. |
