Caption: Dolomite from Little Raith, Fifeshire.
Description: This dolomite is probably from the Charlestown Station Limestone of the Carboniferous Lower Limestone Group which is recorded as being worked at Little Raith in the Geological Survey publication 'Limestones of Scotland'. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number MC 7535. Fife possesses considerable reserves of easily accessible limestone that have been drawn upon for quarrying and mining, chiefly for agricultural and building purposes. The principal seam is Charlestown Main Limestone in the Lower Limestone Group which is higher stratigraphically than the Charlestown Station Limestone.
