Description: Limestone from Freuchie Quarry, Maspie, Falkland, Fifeshire. The Lomond Hills district, the high ground between Falkland and Leslie has a number of more or less discontinuous outcrops of limestone, in many places in association with dolerite sills. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number MC 7533. There are many old limestone quarries most of them in the Carboniferous, Lower Limestone Group, Charlestown Main Limestone. As well as Freuchie Quarry, other old quarries include East Lomond Quarry at the base of East Lomond Hill, Easter Glassie, one quarter of a mile south of East Lomond Quarry, Balgeddie, half a mile north-north-west of Leslie Bridge and Forthar, one mile east-south-east of Freuchie.
