Description: A lead-copper vein in schist, north of Loch Tulla, Argyllshire. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number MC 7413. Lead ores have a wide distribution and have been worked for centuries in Scotland. Copper ores likewise have had a very long history of mining. It is certain that local ore would have been used during the Bronze Age, moulds for casting have been found in several places, especially Aberdeenshire and are thought to date back to 1500-1800 B.C. Very little smelting occurred in Scotland, most ore was exported to Swansea or Holland.
