Description: Middle Force, Aysgarth Falls. Looking W. The Gayle Limestone forms the lip of the fall, seen here during an unusually dry period. The partly shadowed undercut portion (right) is in the underlying Gayle shale, consisting of fossiliferous mudstone with thin limestone bands. The uppermost part of the Hawes Limestone forms the rocks in the foreground and in the base of the waterfall.
