Description: Burlington Slate Limited, Kirkby in Furness, Cumbria. Debris-flow conglomerate in the Tilberthwaite Formation. This cut slab of volcaniclastic rocks from Broughton Moor Quarry (SD 253 945) shows a 10-12 cm. thick bed of debris-flow conglomerate in parallel laminated and ripple cross-laminated, fine-grained sandstone. The debris-flow bed show typical reverse grading that results from the large clasts being removed from the basal shear-zone layer of the debris-flow during transportation. Burlington Slate Limited are thanked for their assistance in obtaining this photograph.
