Description: | Robin Hood Quarry (disused). Looking W. Close-up of roof of 2-ft coal [(30 ft, 9.1 m.) above the Top Haigh Moor] at west end of pit. The coin rests on the top of a lens about 5 cm. thick of the oolitic ironstone, in which the ooliths are vaguely seen. There is no other ironstone in the picture at this level, although some sideritic bands are seen in the mudstone above. The coal seam is banded, with a well-marked grey mudstone band, and of shaly appearance. |
