| Description: | Queyhouse Talc Quarry, near east shore of Loch of Cliff, Unst, Shetland. Working face in a talc quarry. Note the colour and trend of the talc. The quarry is situated within the talc belt along the western thrust margin of the Main Serpentinite Block. The quarry has been in operation since 1945 (though initial operations started in 1940) and produces about 9,000 tons per annum. Talc is a hydrated magnesium silicate mineral. It is extremely soft and has a characteristic soapy feel. |
