| Description: | Bass Rock from the Gegan, East Lothian. The islet is a phonolitic trachyte plug, an intrusion that represents solidified magma in the vent of a Carboniferous volcano. It is related to the Garleton Hills Volcanic Rocks. The cliffs and foreshore are red-stained bedded tuffs belonging to the North Berwick Member. They are pyroclastic rocks and form the basal beds of the Garleton Hills Volcanic Rocks. The Garleton Hills Volcanic Rocks are approximately contemporaneous with the Athur's Seat Volcanic Rocks of the Edinburgh area. |
