Description: Gravel-pit at summit of Headon Hill, S. of Totland. Looking N. Plateau Gravel, Headon Hill. Loamy gravel consisting mainly of angular and little-worn flints. Irregular and impersistent bedding characterizes the whole deposit, which is inferred to be part of an old subaerial wash from higher ground once existing to the south. (length of stick is 35 inches.) Ref: 'A short account of the geology of the Isle of Wight', pp.168, 169.
