| Description: | St. Boniface Stone and Concrete Company, Ventnor. Station Yard. Manufacture of artificial building stone, Ventnor. Interior of mixing and moulding shed at the works of the St. Boniface Stone and Cement Company, Ventnor Station (a). Waste freestone, 'rag' (limestone) and 'Shotterwick' (chert) from the Upper Greensand quarried at the works, is crushed and screened; mixed with 'breeze' (small cinders), cement and water in the Ransome's Concrete Mixer (No.0,? cubic c yard capacity) shown in middle of view; moulded into blocks in the Winget Limited's pressure moulder, seen to the left; and the product placed in the open air to set. In this view the moulding-tray of the Winget Press, on left side of machine, is open and empty. Blocks removed from it are seen in the foreground. (Continued in No. A1770.) |
