Description: Kemnay Quarries, Kemnay. Aberdeenshire. General view of surface working in grey muscovite-biotite granite. Shows pit-like form of quarry 122 m. deep. The blondin cables and supports can be seen stretching across the quarry. On the pit edge by the crane are the 'hutches' the means by which the quarrymen were lowered 122 m. to the quarry floor. The immense size of the quarry is illustrated by the small figure in the foreground and the steps going down to an upper level of the quarry.
