| Description: | Corncockle Quarry, Lochmaben. Dumfriesshire. General view of working platform in the Corncockle Sandstone Formation. The steam-powered crane at the top of the face is used to haul the blocks from the base of the working faces. All the faces show vertical drill holes. The base of the quarry is flooded. Corncockle Quarry was illustrated in 'The Ichnology of Annandale' by Sir William Jardine in 1853. The quarry was noted for its fossilized reptilian footprints which were usually preserved on the flat bedding planes. |
