Description: Dalmeny Oil Works, Dalmeny. West Lothian. Tip heaps or 'bings' of spent oil-shale. At the end of the century of oil-shale mining in 1962 around 150 million tonnes of this waste was left, being equivalent to the total mining output. This spent oil-shale waste was dumped forming large artificial hills called 'bings'.
