Description: Scrabster Quarry, 2.4 km. north-west of Thurso. Caithness. A view of the processing area with cutting tables and sawing sheds with a steam-driven crane in the background. Flagstone cutting tables with hand-saws in position. A great depth of boulder clay overlying flagstones, forms cliff in background. Note how flagstones are used for cutting tables, and the roof of the sawing sheds. Waste was often used to build local dykes. The thick overburden of boulder clay or till is a much more recent glacial deposit than the underlying Devonian (Old Red Sandstone) Caithness Flagstones.
